Adult daughter still mouths off to mom
Dear Amy: I am writing for some help with my adult daughter. She is in her 40s and is very short-tempered and disrespectful in her comments toward me.
I am a very spiritual and "hip" mom, but I'm at a loss about how to handle this.
I am in a 12-step program, and it teaches me patience, acceptance and tolerance, but when is enough enough?

Fresno man gets 39 years for rape of woman, 62
A Fresno man was sentenced Thursday in Fresno County Superior Court to 39 years to life in prison for raping a 62-year-old woman in a downtown alley in May 2008.
Jose Malanche, 32, wrote a letter to Judge Hilary Chittick in which he expressed his remorse and said he hopes "the victim is able to heal and get on with her life," defense attorney Deborah Girard said.
Malanche also hoped his crime didn't ruin the lives of his five children and common-law wife, Girard said.

Fresno State promotes women's soccer assistant coach
Fresno State women's soccer coach Brian Zwaschka announced the promotion Tuesday of Josh Duffy to full-time assistant.
Duffy, who also serves as a director and coach with the Clovis-based California Odyssey Soccer Club, was a volunteer assistant with the Bulldogs last season.
Duffy was an all-conference player for Saint Mary's before brief professional stints in the MLS, the Netherlands and Germany.
Marie Osmond will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd Central California Women's Conference on Sept. 14 at the Fresno Convention Center. This year's theme is "Live What Matters 2U."
Conference coordinator Mary Stabelfeld says Osmond was a natural choice because she's accomplished in so many different areas: entertainment, business and charity work. She co-founded the Children's Miracle Network, which provides health care to more than 17 million children.
Jan Edwards, conference development director, says a key reason Osmond agreed to speak is because the purpose of the Central California Women's Conference is to enrich the lives of women.
"Our conference gives back thousands of dollars each year to Valley women and children in need," Edwards says in a news release.
Osmond will speak about her very public life, which recently included a weight battle and the suicide of her son, Michael Blosil, and her personal values that keep her moving forward.
More than 3,500 people are expected to attend the conference. Organizers expect a sellout. Tickets are available for $90 at ccwc-fresno.org.
Admission includes continental breakfast, seminars, keynote-speaker luncheon and afternoon reception. For more information call (559) 265-6888.
